
Planning for Bicycles and Pedestrians
Although funding continues to be an issue for all transportation-related facilities, there are a lot of recent and ongoing planning activities that will affect the urban areas of Leon County, as well as Gadsden, Jefferson, and Wakulla counties. These include:
Tallahassee – Leon County Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.
Adopted in 2004 by the Tallahassee – Leon County Metropolitan Transportation Organization, this plan identifies new sidewalks, bike routes, and other related facilities. More than 70 miles of new bicycle and pedestrian facilities are currently called for the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, as well as 30 additional miles of streets with striped bike lanes and 30 miles of streets with signed bike routes, and 23 miles of multi-use paths and trails.
