Benefits of Bicycling and Walking 
There are many benefits to bicycling and walking:
- It can improve your health and peace of mind. Walking is excellent, low-impact exercise. Driving in congested conditions, looking for a parking space, and the high cost of owing a truck or a car can be very stressful.
- It can save gasoline and wear and tear on your vehicle. Bicycling or walking is cheap, and doesn’t contribute directly to pollution or global warming.
- It can make your neighborhood safer. A person going slowly through a neighborhood walking or riding a bicycle provides “eyes on the street.” Many U.S. cities also have a police unit assigned to ride specially-outfitted bicycles. They’re quiet and stealthy, and they can cover a lot of ground more quickly than criminals may realize.
- It can help support local businesses. Local business are often located convenient to existing neighborhoods, and if they can pick up more local bicycle or foot traffic, more local businesses may want to locate within walking or bicycling distance of residential areas.
